Having now ridden my own HPE 300 Supertech some 4000 miles, I know how important it is to keep eye on your engine oil levels. The HPE’s burn a lot of oil and that’s a fact.
Given that Piaggio in their infinite wisdom moved the oil filler and dipstick to the water pump position, a location at best could be described as bloody awful. Relocating the dipstick when checking is painful and near impossible.
Having attended many scooter rallies and meet many HPE owners this season, some of whom have experienced full engine seizures because of a lack of engine oil. Piaggio states “ the engine oil must be checked every time you ride”.
These are the original oil pans that have been re-machined to accept an oil-sight glass. With the oil pan installed it will only take a short glance to check your current engine oil level, making the whole dipstick procedure unnecessary. However, It is important to have the scooter on its centre stand and on a level surface when checking oil levels.
Note: When installing, it will be necessary to replace the engine oil and gasket.
